There are many stories about the Round Valley Reservoir in Hunterdon County being cursed. Some also refer to it as the Bermuda Triangle of New Jersey. Since 1971, 26 people have drowned with 6 never recovered…hence the Bermuda Triangle association.

The reservoir was man made back in 1960. The state decided to dam and flood a valley which was a farming community and prior to that it was home to many generations of Native Americans.

The lake is the second deepest in the state at 180 feet which keeps the water temperatures very cold and hypothermia can quickly set in. An account from a former worker at Round Valley Recreation Area (detailed in Weird NJ) stated, “When a person drowns in the reservoir, the body will get caught in the underwater trees, brush and structures not leveled when the reservoir was built. Just before I left to a promotion at another park, a victim’s body surfaced after approximately four years. He still had his pants, boots, shirt, ballcap and glasses on!”

Want to check it out…you’ve been warned even Jacques Costeau allegedly toured the lake and thought it was creepy! Good thing as a kid we canoed at Spruce Run!
