Me either, so I looked it up. It\u2019s actually what you call an animal that people have claimed but has never been proven to exist. Think Big Foot or Loch Ness Monster. The word cryptid comes from cryptozoology which is the study of legendary or unknown animals. Again, who knew?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Jersey makes the list of the top five states with cryptids. Here they are in order with number of cryptids:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 California &#8211; 8<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Texas \u2013 7<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Pennsylvania \u2013 6<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 New Jersey \u2013 5<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 Wisconsin \u2013 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Jersey is known for quite a few \u201cfamous\u201d cryptids including the Jersey Devil and the Mantis Man \u2013 which is described as an insect like creature seen in Hackettstown near the Musconetcong River\u2026again who knew?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What cryptids have you seen in the state?
